What Labour Day Means to Us at Cafézia
For us, Labour Day is a reminder of both privilege and responsibility.
It is the privilege to pause—to take a break from work and honour the dignity of rest. But it’s also a day to reflect on the many hands that make our work possible: from the farmers who grow our coffee, to the workers along the supply chain, to the people who help us bring Cafézia to our customers. Their lives and working conditions may be very different from ours, and we hold a responsibility to ensure they are treated with the same care, dignity, and fairness we would want for ourselves.
Labour Day also reminds us of history. During the Industrial Revolution, wage labour became the norm and coffee was often used to keep employees working long hours with few rights and minimal breaks. Over generations, workers stood up for fairness and created the protections many of us now benefit from.
At Cafézia, we carry that history forward. We believe coffee should support wellbeing, not exploitation. That means:
-
Upholding strong standards in how we source and treat people across our supply chain.
-
Rejecting hustle culture that burns out workers for the sake of profit.
-
Being part of a future where businesses value balance, fairness, and humanity.
This Labour Day, we raise our cups to all workers—past and present—who make progress possible.
